Moving & Packing Tips

When you are preparing to move, one of the first things to start with is packing.  Packing is a service that Crouse Moving & Delivery can provide for you.  However, if you decide to pack your own belongings, here are some helpful hints to assure that your items arrive safely to their new location.

  • Have Plenty of Supplies
      • Boxes - Having enough boxes will make your life easier (you can always return unused boxes for a refund)
      • Packing or Sealing Tape - Use professional packing tape, masking tape is not strong enough
      • Packing Paper - Use generous amounts of paper inside the box to provide good cushion
      • Bubble Wrap
      • Labels
      • Marker
      • Specialty Boxes - i.e. Wardrobe Boxes (these are perfect for bulky or lightweight items such as comforters, pillows, and blankets, as well as clothes that need to remain hanging); Dish Pack; Mirror/Picture Boxes

  • Label Your Boxes
      • Proper labeling will save you time at your new house.  When labeling each box, include the following: Room; Contents (if you've included several kinds of items in one box); Fragile; This End Up; or Heavy

  • Properly Pack Your Boxes
      • Keep things together - in order to keep picture hooks with pictures, shelf brackets with a bookcase, etc., place small loose parts in bags or envelopes and tape them to the item that they belong to
      • Never pack flammable items in boxes
      • Separate breakables and non-breakables
      • Pack all boxes completely, but do not overfill
      • Pack heavy items such as books in small boxes to lift easily

  • Pack Ahead
      • Having most of your belongings packed prior to moving day will save you time

  • Safeguard Valued Items and Important Papers
      • Keep valuable possessions and important papers with you
      • Important papers may include: birth certificates; bank records; bills; closing papers; realtor info; insurance documents, etc.
